4/4

Staring directly at the waterfall from below I sat hugged my knees with only my right arm, and lowered my head. The continuous sound of water falling lulled me for a second. I rested my left arm on the ground, but then I immediately took it off. I got my left hand mildly punctured by a stone–I dug it up. I held the lace with my hand and my extended arm. It still had the engravings. I looked around frantically, and then stopped when I noticed how the gem reflected a light towards the waterfall if held against the sun. I stood up, took a few steps towards the waterfall and then looked around desperately.

I heard a sudden noise of crunching leaves, and quickly turned my head around the area. Nothing. A blue jay cried and I looked up, it flew by itself south. I stood still and held my breath. Tired already, I attempted to lean on a tree, but then I noticed the scratch marks on the tree. I passed my right hand’s fingers over them, and then I suddenly stopped and hugged my left arm. I started running back the way I came from, stopping frantically every once in a while at forks to rethink for a second if I was making the right decision. Left, right, around the boulder, where’s the river?
